Queenstown.com Weekly Editorial - 2nd Edition
Monday, 18 December 2006
Welcome to our second installation of the Queenstown.com editorial, and judging by the popularity of last weeks edition, we'll be updating this once a week. Speaking of weeks, what a splendid one we've just had. I mentioned last week that summer had finally arrived, so it was nice to see it stick around. Perfect for mowing the lawns, especially our front yard cricket pitch!
Last week's poll question asked if Queenstown gets into the spirit of Christmas, to which 67% said No. That doesn't really surprise me at all. Although the poll has closed, comments are still able to be left in the forum. And this weeks question is: 'Is the parking at Queenstown’s Airport satisfactory?'. The poll closes on Sunday, so make your vote count.
I'd like to take the opportunity to give a big thumbs up to Pinewood Lodge and Lock Link, who I saw taking the time to do their recycling in Frankton yesterday (Sunday). There were also quite a few others doing their part which is great to see. Hopefully when we eventually get kerbside recycling, more people will be proactive in the way that they dispose of their trash.
Once again, the speed limit on Frankton Rd has been changed. Consistency would be nice but maybe it's too much to ask for. But I will say that whoever was responsible for the road markings where the passing lane is, or should I say was, you've done a terrible job. Could you have made it anymore confusing? I even YouTubed it here. On a more positive note, the new roundabout at the airport turn-off is starting to look a lot better, and will hopefully make that part of the road a lot safer than it has been. I'll be Youtubing the video I made later today, so watch this spot.
Righteo, on the the 'Editors Picks'.
This weeks YouTube video is one of the best that I've seen. A tip for those that a new to YouTube, press the Play Button and then press Pause straight away, and let the red bar load up to the end. Doing it this way vastly improves the viewing as you'll be giving it time to load and buffer properly. If you've seen a YouTube video that you'd like mentioned, pop me an

After getting all of the Pope's luggage loaded into the limo (and he doesn't travel light), the driver notices that the Pope is still standing on the curb.
"Excuse me, Your Holiness," says the driver, "Would you please take your seat so we can leave?"
"Well, to tell you the truth," says the Pope, "they never let me drive at the Vatican, and I'd really like to drive today."
"I'm sorry but I cannot let you do that. I'd lose my job! And what if something should happen?" protests the driver, wishing he'd never gone to work that morning.
"There might be something extra in it for you," says the Pope.
Reluctantly, the driver gets in the back as the Pope climbs in behind the wheel. The driver quickly regrets his decision when, after exiting the airport, the Supreme Pontiff floors it, accelerating the limo to 105 mph.
"Please slow down, Your Holiness!!!" pleads the worried driver, but the Pope keeps the pedal to the metal until they hear sirens.
"Oh, dear God, I'm gonna lose my license," moans the driver.
The Pope pulls over and rolls down the window as the cop approaches, but the cop takes one look at him, goes back to his motorcycle, and gets on the radio.
"I need to talk to the Chief," he says to the dispatcher.
The Chief gets on the radio and the cop tells him that he's stopped a limo going a hundred and five.
"So bust him," said the Chief.
"I don't think we want to do that, he's really important," said the cop.
Chief exclaimed,"All the more reason!"
"No, I mean really important," said the cop.
The Chief then asked, "Who ya got there, the Mayor?"
Cop: "Bigger."
Chief: "Governor?"
Cop: "Bigger."
"Well," said the Chief,"Who is it?"
Cop: "I think it's God!"
Chief: "What makes you think it's God?"
Cop: "He's got the Pope for a limo driver!"
Forum Post of the week:
This weeks best post in our Forum goes to Spike. Here's an quote from the comment he made about last weeks poll question:
"...are we able to celebrate christmas without resource consent? What about the signage laws, surely we must be breaking some signage bylaws by covering our house in lights advertising Jesus. Or at least, what's left of him, now we're advertising christmas specials..."

Comment of the week:
This weeks top comment was made by a 'guest' in response to last weeks LWB whinge.
"While I agree with "Top Gun" that consideration should be given by both drivers and cyclists, I think that the roads in this district are not that cycle friendly. The design of them means that if you go off the seal you end up in the ditch - not fun, I know! Maybe the council/Transit should look at making a concerted effort to design roads that cater for both cyclists and drivers.
Sore Knees"
And that's it for this weeks edition. The verdict is still out as to if I'll be doing one next Monday due to it being Xmas. So yet again, watch this space, and have a great Christmas too.
