It feels as though it's tidy-up season as well and I'm glad to see on the list one of the final touches to the area where the trees were removed from the Queenstown Gardens. Although I'm not convinced that the grass seed will grow and hold this close to winter, but all up, it's good to see one of the sunniest parts of the gardens so close to being finished. It was a shame to see that stretch in such a sorry state for so many months.
There's also been an upgrade to the front entrance at Poppets, which is also an access point to the primary school fields. This is also good for a few reasons. They'll be less room for those pesky freedom campers, the dust will no longer whipped up by strong winds and blown all over the place, our cricket ball will be a lot easier to find when smacked across the road, but finally, it looks so much better. Good work to the Benchmark Construction team for a great job.

This weeks YouTube video is one that was captured on my digital camera on Saturday when we took our first trip on the new and improved section of Malaghans Road. Although not sealed, it's a huge improvement to what was quite a tricky piece of road in winter conditions. Excuse the quality of the video, but please enjoy the soothing sounds from System of a Down.
Events to keep an eye out for over the next fortnight are the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the Routeburn Classic. You'll have 10 days to catch a screening of Rocky Horror, and from the rumours that are around, this adaptation is sure to thrill crowds.
Well that's it from me this week, so enjoy the colours while they're here, and also the quiet times before winter kicks in.

Last Day
It was George the Mailman's last day on the job after 35 years of carrying the mail through all kinds of weather to the same neighborhood. When he arrived at the first house on his route, he was greeted by the whole family who congratulated him and sent him on his way with a tidy gift envelope.
At the second house, they presented him with a box of fine cigars. The folks at the third house handed him a selection of terrific fishing lures.
At the fourth house, he was met at the door by a strikingly beautiful blonde woman in a revealing negligee. She took him by the hand, gently led him through the door, which she closed behind him, and took him up the stairs to the bedroom where she blew his mind with the most passionate love he had ever experienced.
When he had enough, they went downstairs and she fixed him a giant breakfast: eggs, potatoes, ham, sausage, blueberry waffles, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. When he was truly satisfied, she poured him a cup of steaming coffee. As she was pouring, he noticed a dollar bill sticking out from under the cup's bottom edge. "All this was just too wonderful for words," he said, "But what's the dollar for?"
"Well," she said, "Last night, I told my husband that today would be your last day, and that we should do something special for you. I asked him what to give you. He said, 'Screw him. Give him a dollar.' The breakfast was my idea."
