The Cadbury Moro Slopestyle series for freestylers gets underway Monday, July 23 at The Remarkables and is set to feature a strong lineup of competitors.
Josh Clark, Youth Action Sports Co-ordinator says the event would be a great opportunity to show off the new UP & GO Terrain Park.
"The new park is in wicked condition. There are two lines to choose from - intermediate and advanced – with plenty of options to get your creative juices flowing…fun boxes, rails, wall rides and table tops."
Up to 80 competitors were expected to compete including members of the Parklife Rider team based at The Remarkables. The team includes experienced local riders Nick Hyne, Heath Patterson, Jeremy Thorns, Mark Anderson and Callie Conaghan as well as skier Matt Soundy.
"We have an awesome team this year and are stoked to introduce two new members. Callie is ranked No1 in the NZSBA rider ranking and Matt at just 16 years old has already proved himself by scoring 19th in the US Open during his Northern Hemisphere training season stateside."
"We can expect top performances from them throughout this series."
Now in its ninth year, the series involves four slopestyle events over two months to be held in the park. Josh says The Remarkables is regarded as the home of slopestyle and this series is fun and exciting for both competitors and spectators.
"Freestylers on snowboards or skis will use the terrain park features and rails as part of the slopestyle line. It's a great event for spectators who can watch competitors while enjoying music from local DJ, Raff Star."
A cash and product prize pool valued at around $3000 is on offer for each of the four events of the series and competitors can expect the UP & GO Terrain Park to be in excellent condition.
"The park crew has been hard out working up a new advanced line of slopestyle features for the competition and making sure the park will be in top condition on Monday. I'm looking forward to a solid event."
The Cadbury Moro Slopestyle series is a level two qualifying event for the New Zealand Snowboard Association National Championships to take place in September.
For those entering Monday's competition, there is a $25 entry fee and a $20 fully refundable bib deposit.
Registration takes place on the day at The Remarkables terrain park office between 9:00am – 10:30am with the competition kicking off at 11:30am.
Prizegiving will take place at The Buffalo Club at 8:00pm.
