Day on the Bay at Winter Festival

The SkiDealsNZ.com Day on the Bay (Sunday June 29) was an overwhelming success with a larger than usual crowd lining the edge of the lake to catch all the crazy fun.

A bunch of braver than brave contestants entered into the MORE FM Birdman. Complete with contraptions and costumes they threw themselves with gusto into the freezing waters of Lake Wakatipu as the crowd cheered and laughed and whistled their encouragement.

Shotover Jet came in first with a spectacular performance, costumes, flares and all, with Grabaseat taking second place and third going to McGillra Garilla.

The SkiDealsNZ.com Splash and Dash was a fight to the finish line in both categories. Stefan Haworth's particularly fetching mankini gave him the edge as he took first place prize of $250 cash and $100 worth of travel from SkiDealsNZ.com. His performance also worthy of a spot on TV3's Sunrise program.

In the women's category first place went to Annabella Simpson who commented that this year the water was colder than previous.

From there it went onto the Celebrity Challenge with the Queenstown Jet boat companies battling it out. A contingency of visiting celebrities completed the teams as they went through a series of challenges until the ultimate winner was decided. The Team from Kawarau Jet with their celebrity team member Hayley Holt taking out the first place trophy.

The Winter Festival continues until July 6. Still to come is the American Express Ski Race, Mardi Gras the Downtown Day and much much more.
