Relentless Cardrona Games Announces Exciting Line-Up

Freestyle skiing, snowboarding, motorbikes (FMX) and snowmobiling mixed with live music and top athletes make up the Relentless Cardrona Games, the largest snow sports party and event in New Zealand and held at Cardrona Alpine Resort.

This year it takes place under floodlights, at night, on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 July.

"It will be one big party for all involved," said Cardrona sales and marketing manager, Bruce McGechan. "As well as having a Ski and Snowboard Big Air we also entertain the crowd each night with a Snowmobile and FMX Big Air competition, and a top DJ."

In 2008, its third year, a series of Big Air competitions - Ski and Snowboard, FMX, and Snowmobile - will take place in rapid-fire 20 minute slots between 6pm and 8pm. They all take place at the base area (Snowmobile and FMX) or from the new Big Air just above the beginner's platter lift (Ski and Snowboard).

A famous NZ DJ, Sola Rosa, is coming down from Auckland to play some tunes in NZ's biggest Alpine Sports event and party.

Athletes include:

  • Paul Thacker: A Winter X Games snowmobilist from Colorado who is capable of doing back flips.
  • Luke Smith: A Crusty Demons FMX star who did a back flip up at Cardrona last winter (first ever back flip on the snow in NZ).
  • Jossi Wells: A world top 3 freeskier and now a local legend, having won the World Superpipe Champs and silver in the Winter X Games Slopestyle.
  • Mitch Brown: Another New Zealander who has won or podiumed in a number of top international snowboard events.

The event is free to watch. All main basin cafes will remain open until 8pm, and various fun activities and music will take place from 3.30pm - 6pm.
