Queenstown's award-winning Queenstown Holiday Park "Creeksyde" was purpose built in 1987 for camper vans by Tonnie and Erna Spijkerbosch. Tonnie and Erna looked at what was happening in Queenstown and saw that the people hiring camper vans looked as though they would appreciate a more up market facility; especially as they tended to stay in Queenstown for more than just a one night stopover.
With this in mind they designed and built this complex within a short stroll from the town centre. The location is a sheltered garden setting alongside a peaceful stream.
Over the years the park has expanded several times and now offers a full range of delightful sites nestled amongst the trees, and a variety of accommodations as well as now having shops, including a large Supermarket almost alongside.
Catering especially for camper vans, with some luxury features you wouldn't expect to find in even the best camping grounds, Queenstown Holiday Park Creeksyde has become an award winning park leading the industry in New Zealand. They won a tourism award within months of opening; gained a Total Quality Management Certificate; graded 5 star Qualmark with 4 star Motels. Of greatest pride to the team is that in 2003 they became the first holiday park in the world to be environmentally benchmarked by Green Globe 21. To top that off in 2004 they also became the first in the world to be Green Globe Certified.
Recycling and a Worm Farm help reduce waste to landfill and reuse of materials has resulted in some very interesting features of garden ornament about the park.
The facilities building is a fascinating pole and beam construction centered around a 12 metre high 10 tonne boiler tube. This graffiti pole rising through a central atrium is quite a talking point and a local landmark. Returning guests look to find their signatures on it from previous visits.
Services from the office include local sightseeing bookings and advice, and no parking problems either. Day parking can be arranged and the town centre is only 5 minutes walk from Creeksyde.
