questions about queenstown..im visiting soon 2007/07/20 12:26 Karma: 0
hi there, my name is ryan.

my friend and i are both going to queenstown in jan-feb of 2008. both the same age at 21 and were curious about the town and would like to ask questions. brace your self there a bunch. haha
ok just curious about :

1.in the day time what is there to do for fun?
2.in the night time what is there to do for fun?
3.are the restraunts/lounges/fast food places expensive/is the night life beer expensive?
4.is there mush for GST or any sort of after dollar costs/ how much is the dollar running for ?
5.in the months of january/febuary (2008) can you tell me what the 6.temperatures are like usually around this time?

i think we will be going with a short amount of needs and wont be carying much around. I assume the hostels would be the best places to go for sleep.

7.is there many around the town and if so how much do they go for usually..just for a ball park range.

please email me or just respond back on here. im sure i will have other questions soon.

Hey Steeds, welcome to the forum.

In regards to your questions, here's my answers:

1. The same thing you do at home in summer, drink, watch sport on tv and have bbq's. There's also a lake for wakeboarding, etc, a beachfront and a frisbee golf course. Plently of mountain bike tracks too.

2. Queenstown has a great nightlife scene, so grab a Source when you arrive, and check out our gig guide.

3. There are a lot of happy hour promotions run across the various bars and clubs, and the specials aren't too bad. There's some of everything and ranging lots in price. Turkish Kebab's are great too, or Fergburger.

4. GST is already factored into all pricing so there's nothing you need to look for there. Currently the Kiwi dollar is sitting at 79 US cents, the highest it's been in 22 years. I don't know where you're from, so I can't do your local currency.

5/6. January is when summer finally arrives in Queenstown, so temperatures will vary from about 10 to 35 degrees celcius, and it's light till late.

7. Plenty of hostels in town, and rates vary from $20-30 NZD. It gets busy in summer so it may pay to book in advance.

So yeah, the above is quite brief, so feel free to ask more questions. I hope it helps!

Nathan

Hey Steeds,

Sorry about the late reply. In regards to you questions, here's some links:

Nomad Safaris - http://www.nomadsafaris.co.nz/
Gravity Action - http://gravityaction.com/
Kawarau Jet - http://kjet.co.nz/
Queenstown Combos - http://combos.co.nz/

The combos are activity options that are packaged in a combo, which offer better pricing for those people that wanna do more for there dollar.

But if you popped into our booking office, we offer various discounts, so check us out on 46 Robins Road.

And yes, Queenstown's quite small itself, so you'll be able to walk around town easily. And most tourist operators provide transport for their activities.

And there are plenty of hostels to choose from also, and I'd recommend Discovery Lodge.

Hope this helps!

If you pop into the Queenstown.com office, we do discounts on various activities. You can even book your accommodation with us too, sorry smiley_nz

Here's a link to our map, and as you can see, our office location is already on there. Pinewood Lodge is located at the end of Hamilton Road, which we are on the corner of.

Hope that helps.
