I see.... So since I don't know much about Queenstown, is there say, a city center or is everything just spread out and you have to go hike a mountain and cross a glacier to borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor? Damn glaciers! Also, I noticed there seem to be a lot of cool bars & restaurants around, but is there a decent place to see live music? I hope I'm not being a pain and thanks in advance for answering my questions. In return, I'll let you have some of my free Jack Daniels once I get there.

Queenstown hasn't reached 'city' status yet due to its population, but they sure are trying. there is a central business district where all the 'town' stuff happens, like shopping, working, drinking, etc.
yes, Queenstown has the highest ratio of drinking establishments vs its population in New Zealand, so yeah, there are a lot of places to go out. as for live music, there is some, but its mainly DJ's. mind you we're having our annual jazz festival in october sometime, and that's 10 days of live jazz all over town.
when do you think you'll be in town?

I'll be in town towards the end of September and am scheduled to stay for a year. It's only 4 weeks away and I'm excited, but starting to get nervous, hoping to find a job, etc. Are you a native of Queenstown?

No, Nathan is not a 'native', there are not that many natvies left, apart from myself i only know of a few others still living here. The social scene isn rather good, Dux De Lux always have a live band on Thursdays & Chicos has Jam night on Wednesdays, it is out there if you hunt it down. It Queenstown, theres bound to be a party somewhere ....

That definitely works for me!
What does a young person in Queenstown do on the weekends, considering there's so much to do outdoors? And as the only remaining native of Queenstown, I imagine most of your time is spent making special appearances at local events; kind of like Miss Universe.

Depends really, Nathan Hunting is a good start. But serriously, because Queenstown is a big tourist place we don't really have a 'weekend' as such, Any day or night of the week there is something going on. Skiing is the major daytime winter activity, in summer a the lake sees a fair bit of action, or you can just wander off into the hills for a look around, there is somehting for everyone.

I said LIKE Miss Universe - I'm not calling anyone a girl or saying anyone won a beauty pageant - I'm sure Regan is a very masculine person, but he said that...oh, forget it. Regan: I'm sorry if the Miss Universe comment came out wrong. I'm glad to hear that the lake and hills are accessible. I was afraid they'd only be accessible to people who pay for hiking tours, etc. And I LOVE swimming in lakes! And thanks again for all your helpful input.

Shall we continue this in the hobbit thread? We're getting a little off topic me thinks. Thanks

Well theres not much choice for a gift of Jack. I like Haiku, but wheres the competition? i'm changing the rules. It's not Jack now it's Jon. And he has his black Jacket on whilst walking. Seems like a waste on hobbits and the like.

Come on peoples. We know you come here, the stats say so. A bottle of Jacks is still up for grabs or maybe we'll change it to suit the winners taste. Let us know what you'd rather win.

Hi there everyone,I am Surfingbrat6969 26 years old Female from Queensland Australia. Moving to Queenstown in few weeks time. Spent New Years In Queenstown NZ & fell in love with it so thought I would make the change. If anyone has some good advice for me on what to do or not to do that would be great. Would like to know the best place to meet people etc as I am travelling alone. Have booked 4 nights accommodation in lovely hotel (relax & destress )then I hope to find share accommodation to in house close to town otherwise off to the packpackers. If anyone can help with some knowledge or website for share accommodation that would be fantastic. Look forward in hearing from anyone soon. Kind regards Surfingbrat6969
