Queenstown's first snowfall of 2007
Snow in Queenstown

Fresh on the heels of the Queenstown.com redesign are the first snow flakes to fall in Queenstown for 2007. Pictured here is Tim Macknelly, the designer responsible for our new look website in a photo that was taken at 12pm. The snow is still falling, and may it continue!

Coronet Peak - Open for 2007

Coronet Peak is open for 2007 and I'm here in the office writing about it. But nevermind, after lunch we'll be taking a trip up there for a few runs, and we'll look at taking some photos and even some video, so watch this space. Last week's polar blast didn't bring us much snow, as Southland got it all, which wasn't too surprising. The cooler the air, the less moisture it can hold, and that's why we got less than 10cm in total. Maybe next time?

The first frost of 2007 - at my place anyway In three days, Coronet Peak is forecast to open for the 2007 winter season, and if they do, expect some of your employees to call in sick. And for the record, I'm not endorsing that behaviour, or am I? The opening last year was delayed a few days, which was enough time for another snowfall which led to some of the best snow conditions for an opening at Coronet Peak that I'd experienced personally. What will the forecasted wintry blast bring us this weekend?

Tomatoes are still growing in May I read an article last week that went on to say that most parts of New Zealand are one degree warmer than average for this time of year, so that would explain why I still have tomatoes growing in my glasshouse. Also in the news, the annual Wakatipu Ski Club sale attracted roughly 2000 people, and as we all guessed would happen, 24 hour drinking licenses are now a thing of the past.

Queenstown.com Redesign - Sneak Peak"It’s a really exciting project that’s going to make a huge and very positive difference to the downtown experience,"
- Queenstown Lakes District Council utilities general manager Mark Kunath

"It's common practice to have the site marked out whether it's in the CBD or out of town. This is just silly. I don't really understand it at all."
- Queenstown Lakes District Council Councillor Rick Pettit

Well, last week was certainly an interesting one. We saw an ugly brawl erupt at the soccer, someone almost lost their life when the power cable in the CBD was cut after the council forced Delta to remove their 'graffiti' from the footpath, and the team here at Queenstown.com upgraded a few things and continued to work on our redesign.
