The Queenstown.com Weekly
Queenstown.com Monopoly Competition Prize Pool

Last week marked the 50th edition of the Queenstown.com Weekly, and here's hoping that this continues far into the future. In this week's edition, we announce the winner of the Queenstown.com Monopoly Competition as voting draws to a close this week. Also, we highlight the recycling efforts of Queenstown as a whole, we detail the latest news from the council, and briefly talk about the local housing market and the cracks that are starting to appear.

Queenstown Skate Park drama unfolds in the face of new fundraising push
Construction of the Queenstown Skate Park

"Over my dead body" is a quote made famous by ex-Councillor, and local police officer, Chris Blackford. It was in response to plans that aimed to relocate Queenstown's ailing skate park to the Recreation Ground. Putting it in perspective, this took place in late 2005, and it signalled Queenstown.com's involvement in the skate park issue from that point. Our Content Manager at the time was Kara-Leah, and she sat down and conducted the first two interviews on behalf on this website. They were with Chris Blackford, and the then chairman of the Wakatipu skate club, John Stapleton.

Frisbee Golf in the Queenstown Gardens

The Queenstown.com weekly took a break last Monday, mainly due to the fact that I missed my flight home from Christchurch, and because I was a little under the weather. As per usual, the jibes came in from regular readers calling for this to be the Queenstown.com Bi-weekly, or even monthly, so thanks everyone for your concern and sense of humour. In this edition we briefly talk about the new developments in regards to the skate park, the details about the upcoming frisbee golf tournaments, Queenstown's chances of getting on the world Monopoly board, and we showcase our new webcams.

Reggae in the Gardens

As I write this, Queenstown sits at number 12 in a global competition that has 68 international cities vying for the top 20 allocated spots on the new Global Edition of Monopoly. Find out inside this week's edition on how to enter for the prize pack we've assembled to help promote Queenstown's chances of gaining a top spot. Also, we promote some of the local events that are coming up, and gossip about the rumours of the Night 'n Day's new location in Queenstown.

Scorching may be the best word to describe Queenstown's weather recently, with multiple instances of temperatures higher than 30 degrees during the week. Perfect for taking a dip in the cool waters of Lake Wakatipu or even Glendu Bay over in Wanaka. This week's edition highlights what made news recently, and we have the latest photos of the skatepark construction in the Queenstown Gardens. And finally, we check out Queenstown's current status on trying to get onto the world edition Monopoly board, and the Wolverine movie makes the news again, but in a good way.
