The Queenstown.com Weekly
Queenstown skatepark construction begins - well sort of...

Hello, and welcome to the 47th edition of the Queenstown.com Weekly. This week's edition comes to you from Te Anau Downs, which is in the Fiordland National Park, on the road to Milford Sound. The purpose of the trip is to further extend the coverage of local wireless internet provider, HQWiFi. It's not as hot here as it shows in Queenstown based on the reading from our Queenstown weather station. The temperature at 2.20pm today sat at an impressive 32.4 degrees, the 4th time over 30 in the last week. And we show you the latest photo from the new storage centre and the Queenstown Fun Centre.

Queenstown Bay in summer

As I write this weeks edition, it is raining outside, the first significant rainfall for almost 3 weeks, and it's a blessing. The hard sunshine that graces the Central Otago region has made itself at home this summer, parching lawns and sports grounds harder than normal. Inside this edition, I'll detail why Queenstown is just like any other town when scenery and adventure activities are removed from the mix. This includes development delays and budget blowouts, parking skills that defy belief, improper use of sprinklers, and Queenstown's newest storage centre. This can only mean a photo laden issue. And we see if there was a winner in last week's Barup cocktail competition, and detail our newest prize giveaway!

Petrol's march towards $2 per litre?

Welcome to the first Queenstown.com Weekly for 2008! From everyone here at Queenstown.com, we hope you all had fabulous holidays, and are enjoying being back at work. Tongue in cheek aside, in this week's edition we discuss rising petrol prices and their possible affect on Queenstown. We also hand out prizes for the Barup Cocktail prize, and we detail how you can win 2 tickets to see Jose Gonzalez and guests at Peregrine this Thursday. And finally, guess what major tourism operator just recently announced that they will not be paying any commission to agents this year?

Cricket at the Queenstown Events Centre

With Christmas just around the corner, I'd like to take this chance to highlight some of the events that are taking place between now and then, to help us all get into the spirit of things. Also, we give props to Creeksyde for being awarded the environmental Green Globe gold status, and we draw the winner of last week's Barup cocktail prize, and detail how we are giving out the 10 free passes to the cricket on new years eve.

The Remarkables in Summer

Hot is certainly the word of the moment, especially when you consider the weather we had during the weekend. Officially, Queenstown reached 27 and 26 degrees on the thermometer located at the airport, but our very own weather station based on Hallenstein St, clocked an impressive 34 and 32, and it definitely felt that way. Some respite is due later this afternoon with some much needed rainfall according to David Crow's weather forecast. Also, the Barup cocktail prize jackpots as no one correctly answered last week's question, so check out this week's question here.
