Stu Mcrustie is highly excited about the new venture and over a seven hour meeting last Wednesday evening, he
just about managed to explain to me what this new venture will actually entail. "Basically, My business
partner, Hamish Capers, and myself have been living in Queenstown for the past six years, and like
all good Scots, have enjoyed the odd drink or two in the establishments around town, maybe five
or six nights a week, depending on the time of the year.
We where both absolutely shocked by the
councils new ruling on closing times, as this would put a serious dent in our social lives. We then
started to realise that we could actually makes some money out of this new law, and the more
we thought about it over the last couple of months, we began to realise that we could be on to a
sure fire winner."
Hamish and Stu, both have outstanding hospitality credentials, having been dishpigs in a number of
Queenstown restaurants, as well as an astounding number of establishments around the world, they
work hard, and play even harder. Hamish continues, "With the pubs now closing at four in the morning
we realised we now actually have an extra couple of hours on our hands, and we could exploit these
with the extra crowds that will be milling around the streets at this time of the morning..."
Basically the boys have decided that with the last pub closing at four, and the first one opening at eight, they
have four hours in which they can hit the extra street traffic that is certain to come with the earlier
closing hours. The 'WAKACHIPPA' is going to be a mobile Scottish chip shop that will be fully set up
to provide a number of deep fried Scottish treats that are sure to be a winner in the early hours of
the morning. "Hamish and myself really miss the Scottish chipper from back home, and we thought
that this new mobile early hour facility would be perfect for the night owls of Queenstown.
Although neither of us can drive, we think that we will be sweet at this time, as all the police will be busy dealing
with all the trouble that will be created from this new law. We can basically leave whatever pub we
are at just before closing time, and set up the shop within a matter of minutes! We are both really
excited about it!" The Menu will consist of Scottish favourites like potato fritters, Haggis, and deep
fried Pizza, but the boys reckon the BYO facility will be a sure hit. "For only a dollar, we can deep fry
anything that you bring us, be it from home, the night and day or whatever!"
After the four hour shift is over the 'WAKACHIPPA' can be cleaned down in only five minutes, and
then driven off to the nearest free park, before the boys pop off for breakfast at the first pub that is
open. This venture promises to be huge, look out for the distinctive Haggis shaped van cruising the
streets from August 4th. Yum.
