What a weekend! So much for hitting the quiet period... good times to be had by all.
Now when it comes to looking for a place to live in Queenstown it can be a real drag
sometimes. Some people are lucky and always seem to find a mean pimped out pad for
only sixty bucks a week, while others do the hard yards and only seem to end up living in
a shoe box on the outskirts of the town, and being charged half a weeks wages for the
privilege!
Over the last couple of weeks some friends and myself have been enquiring
through various accommodation agencies in the town and have been pretty amazed by
how incompetent they can be. Some more so than others. Obviously most people who
are looking for a place to live want to find a pad pretty quick, as it is a pretty stressful
time sorting everything out.
The accommodation agencies seem to think that you have
all the time in the world, and don't really seem to be in any rush to sort you out with
a place to stay, which in reality should be in their best interest as well, seeing as they
are making so much money of the let. When enquiring about looking at places at one
agency, we where pretty much treated like we where paupers, and told that we could look
at a property in three days time, a great help when we only have a limited time to look at
places in the first place, with work and everything else.
When we finally get to see the
house at the 'required time' there is another ten people looking at the property, which to
tell you the truth is pretty rude, you immediately feel like you have no chance at all. When
we finally decided to put in an application, it was over a week before we where told that
we had just missed out, and that was after we had rung the agency numerous times for
some information about what was going on with the application. To make things even
harder, we where not allowed to apply for another property until our first application had
gone through, so basically it would take a good few weeks to even have a chance of
getting a house through an agency.
It is pretty disgraceful how some of these people
act, after all it should be a fairly simple process to match clients to properties that are
available in the town. We decided to go through private channels, easier, cheaper, and
you seem to get a way better deal. Best of luck to those of you who are looking at the
moment...
It was with great shock and horror, that after much debate about what constituted a great
potato salad, as mentioned last week, no one actually bothered to bring a potato salad
to the party! A shocking state of affairs, which shall hopefully be sorted out in the near
future. And to all of those of you going to Dunedin for a massive weekend of drum and
bass, see ya there, gonna be sick!
