Dining with a view to die for
We have all walked past The Grille by Eichardt’s, looked through the floor to ceiling windows and envisioned ourselves in the warm restaurant, sipping on wine and embracing the view over Lake Wakatipu. Let it be known that dining at The Grille is everything you imagine and more, so don’t deprive yourself any longer.
The atmosphere of the dimly lit restaurant is so comfortable. It has this beautiful homely feeling but with the flair of fine dining elegance. Deciding on your meal may be difficult for some because the menu reads deliciously. Not to worry though as the wait staff are professional and helpful when it comes deciding what dish to choose.
At the top of the entree list is Eichardt’s Legendary Seafood Chowder and it sure lives up to its name. This light yet creamy bowl of goodness is generously filled with mussels, prawns and freshened with kale. The freshly cooked, crispy crusted bread soaks up the golden bowl of seafood. Your dinner has only just begun. Another standout is the Antipasti Platter for Two. It is a lavish arrangement of crispy bread, meats, cheeses and dips.
The knife glides through the Venison featured in the Wild Venison Wellington in garlic and rosemary pastry, sprouting broccoli and pumpkin puree. The buttery texture of the meat mimics the buttery flavour of the pastry wrapped around it. It is dishes like this that make you want it to be winter all year. The pumpkin puree was sweet but smokey. The Brocollini balances the dish by adding freshness and crunch. The Angus Steak on the Bone is highly recommended. The steak comes on it’s own which enables you to customise your meal by choosing from a range of sides and sauces.
There is always room for dessert and you won’t want to skip this one. The Chocolate & Chestnut dessert is definitely a standout. It is a pressed marou chocolate cake served with sweet chestnut mousse and mixed berry ice cream. The chocolate cake has a decadent bitterness to it. It is the berry ice cream that brings the dish together with its creamy texture and the tartness which cuts through the rich cake.
The whole dining experience at The Grille by Eichardt’s is sophisticated and cosy. The menu has an array of options that will exceed your expectations when placed in front of you. It is highly recommended to secure your spot by making a reservation.
