Kelvin Heights to Jacks Point
The concept of a serene walking track starting in a suburb isn't usually what comes to mind. However, Kelvin Heights provides the gateway to a beautiful 4 hour walking track around the shores of lake Watakipu.
Either starting Starting at Jardine carpark, briefly pass through tall pine forest, which suddenly breaks onto rolling tussock landscape. With the occasional opportunity to walk down to the lake shore, the track mostly riddles the cliffside and faces down towards the southern end of the lake. The Remarkables loom resolutely to the left, never leaving your peripheral view.
Ending at Jacks Point club house, either return the same way or organise transport to return you to the starting point. The peaceful track will leave you feeling pretty impressed with Queenstown's grandiosity.
How to get there
Either start at Bay View road carpark (with the option to walk the Kelvin Heights peninsula) or at the end of Poplar Drive at Jardine carpark to walk straight to Jack's Point
