Common questions
What's the best time to visit Queenstown?
It depends on what you want. Summer (Dec–Feb) is warm and lively for adventure and the lake; winter (Jun–Aug) is ski season; autumn and spring are quieter, cheaper and beautiful. There's no bad time — just different trips.
When is the ski season?
Queenstown's fields — Coronet Peak and The Remarkables — typically run from about mid-June to early October, snow depending. Check the snow report for live conditions.
When is it cheapest to visit?
The shoulder seasons — autumn (Mar–May) and spring (Sep–Nov) — generally have the best value on accommodation and fewer crowds, outside school holidays and festival dates.
When are the autumn colours?
Roughly mid-April to early May, best around Arrowtown and Lake Hayes — timed with the Arrowtown Autumn Festival.
